Former professional football star Michael Strahan is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time, as few defensive ends in the sport were more skilled or dominant on the field. He received a great deal of recognition throughout his football career, winning numerous awards and honors.
Since retiring in 2007, Michael has been hard at work as a football analyst and sitcom star on television. The football great is also well known for giving back to his community, donating his time to charities and spreading goodwill. Now, Michael's latest effort is to spread the word about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as part of the DRIVE4COPD campaign.
Michael's Uncle Bud struggled to breathe and wore an oxygen mask in the last years of his life due to complications of emphysema, a form of COPD. That's why partnering with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. on this public health initiative is so important to Michael. Now he can tell others what he wishes his uncle Bud had known: screening and early detection of COPD are key because there are steps you can take to breathe better.
As part of the "Race for the Missing Millions," Michael is competing with other members of the DRIVE4COPD Race Team to see if he can screen the most people who may be at risk for COPD.
